How wdot works

Servers hold projects, projects hold services. Here is how the pieces fit.

wdot runs your apps and databases on servers that belong to you. Everything in the console is organised in three levels:

  • Servers — a machine in the region you picked. It has its own address and its own resources (CPU, memory and storage) that only your projects use.
  • Projects — a group of services on one server, usually one product or one environment (for example shop and shop-staging).
  • Services — one app or one database. An app is built from a Git repository; a database is created for you.

When you deploy an app, wdot fetches your code, builds it, starts it on your server and gives it a web address. Every deploy is kept in the service's history, so you can go back to an earlier one in a click.
